Description

Opera Mariposa is Canada’s only disability-led, disability-run opera company. Now in our eighth season, our shows have been hailed as “a stroke of genius” (The Voice), “an evening of delight” and “a masterpiece” (Review Vancouver), with The Vancouver Project declaring that “Opera Mariposa stands at the forefront of Vancouver’s opera scene.” We are dedicated to creating opportunities for exceptional emerging performers from around the globe, as well as working to increase diversity and disability representation in the arts. Meanwhile, our well-known Benefit + Awareness performances have raised over $80,000 for a variety of charities, and our commitment to making opera accessible has led us to offer free performances at street festivals, seniors’ residences, the Vancouver Public Library and more, in addition to livestreaming entire productions online for those unable to attend them in person.

As a young, artist-led company, we rely on the support of our generous donors and sponsors. If you’ve enjoyed our shows in the past, or if you want to support up-and-coming local artists and help us create more high-calibre productions in future, please consider making a donation. Whether you contribute $5 of $5,000, your gift ensures that we can help keep opera a vital part of our community!

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT MARIPOSA:

Rent costumes and props
It’s true – Mariposa’s award-winning costume designs are available for rent! Proceeds go directly towards our own upcoming shows. Learn more at operamariposa.com/costumes.

Donate costumes and props
Are you clearing out your closet? Discarding dated furniture? Desperately seeking to offload your eccentric uncle’s collection of taxidermied owls? Opera Mariposa welcomes donations of clean, gently used costumes, props and craft supplies, including items that may require repair or refurbishment. Please get in touch with us to arrange a time for drop-off or pickup, and see your unneeded items gain a new life on the operatic stage!

Reserve Ad Space
You can get an ad in the Mariposa show program starting at $20, or a full-colour slide in our overhead projections for only $10! All advertising proceeds help to cover our production costs so just think of it like a donation that also helps you build your business. Learn more at operamariposa.com/support.

Volunteer
Do you love the theatre? Are you interested in meeting like-minded people, learning new skills, lending your unique talents to a production and getting a behind-the-scenes look (and a free front-row seat) at a show? Volunteers play an essential role at Opera Mariposa. Whether creating costumes and props, greeting audience members, helping out in the office or lending a hand backstage, there’s a way for you to be part of the Mariposa team.
